The Perspective of Memory: Fear, Empowerment, Forgiveness
Margaret McMullan is the author of seven award-winning novels and a 2011 Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award winner. Her novels for elementary children, teens, and adults celebrate the power of memory, restoring relationships, and forgiving others. Her newest book, Where the Angels Lived: One Family's Story of Exile, Loss, and Return is a memoir about her journey discovering her unknown Jewish ancestors in Hungary, and the redemptive power of knowing and owning your own story.
Margaret McMullan did not ask for the assignment that sent her and her family to Hungary to mourn an unknown family member lost to the Holocaust, but her radical courage, determination and stamina in the face of that assignment is breathtaking, insisting we pay attention, to the crimes of the past and our actions in the present, because, of course, it can happen here.

We are excited to bring Ms. McMullan to Bloomington as we explore together the perspective of memory. As always, the Power of Words talk is free and open to the public. With a ticket, you can park in the Library parking lot for the evening. You will enjoy preferred seating at the theater, and then be part of a festive event afterward at Monroe County Public Library where you can chat with McMullan, and enjoy music by harpist Erzsébet Gaal, hors d'oeuvres by caterer Cynthia Moriarty, and champagne.
